I got a lot of great feedback on the article “How to Respond to Ferguson” Overall, it was overwhelmingly good. But some of you didn’t like me calling Obama, Holder, and other leftists radicals. Let me explain why I think Holder and Obama are the real radicals in Ferguson:
Let’s take a closer look at this. Here’s a bit of what I said about the death of Michael Brown:
This story is without a doubt a sad one. A young black man named Michael Brown was killed. Any time human life is taken it is a tragedy. It doesn’t matter to me whether he was black, or white, or whatever. It was a human life, made in the image of God. That makes him more valuable than any identification of race. This man had his life stolen (regardless of whether it was his fault, or if he was a victim). He was taken away from his home, his family, and his friends too early.
I truly believe this is a tragedy. It is very sad.
So what should happen in a case like this? Well, we live in a nation of laws. While not perfect, our system of government is the best, most fair one that exists on the planet. As a people, we have decided to establish courts according to our constitution and our legislators for lower courts. The best way to deal with a tragedy is to let this system of justice take it’s course and move on.
Here’s what I said about that:
A jury of our peers is reviewing the evidence as a grand jury. Both sides are represented by competent attorney’s and we have to trust they come to the right decision. Imperfect as it may be, is it the best way to deal with this incident.
So why did I call Obama, Holder, and other liberal activists radicals? And, why are they the real radicals in ferguson? First, they are not dumb people. I think everything they are doing is thought out and purposeful. Because they are people in leadership, they should be held to a very high standard to lead and to model appropriate behavior. Something they have not done.
What does the correct response to a human tragedy like this look like? We can find one good answer in 1 John 4:7-12:
7 Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. 8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. 9 This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. 10 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 11 Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 12 No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us. 1 John 4:7-12 (NIV)
Here’s why Obama, Holder, and the other leftists are the real radicals in Ferguson: Rather than working to heal these wounds by letting civic justice work in the courts and repairing these wounds by giving a message of solidarity, love, hope, and forgiveness to reconcile this nation, they are twisting the knife.
At the very minimum, Obama and Holder should be upholding the law. The Washington Times reports this:
Federal law (18 U.S. Code § 2101) makes it a crime to travel or to use interstate communications (which includes social media) “(1) to incite a riot; or (2) to organize, promote, encourage, participate in, or carry on a riot; or (3) to commit any act of violence in furtherance of a riot; or (4) to aid or abet any person in inciting or participating in or carrying on a riot or committing any act of violence in furtherance of a riot.”
Where is the outrage in this!? At the very minimum, our executive branch (Obama and Holder) have a constitutional duty to uphold the law, including the one cited above. Not only have they failed to enforce the rule of law, they have gone much further in the opposite direction. While I think there is a lot more to it than this, the cynical part of me also can’t help but look at the timing of this with the last election either.
This is why I called them the real radicals in Ferguson. They are attempting to radically change the rule of law without using the legislative branch of government.
I can’t find a single instance when the Tea Party rioted or looted business and the response was to use the IRS to target them. In fact, the Tea Party was very effective in the elections and moving their agenda forward. It is doubtful, the actions of these rioters will bring much change to their cause because the vast majority of us just don’t feel their response has been healthy. We don’t give candy to our children when they throw a temper tantrum, I don’t think most people want to reward lawlessness and rioting either.
We need to let peaceful protests occur. There is a time for grieving and it is very fair for it to be public. But healing our nations wounds requires communication, understanding, and at least a very small piece of respect.
Protests should occur and they should follow the law. There is no dignity in stealing from shops, breaking infrastructure, and rioting. What would be the point of protesting the death of a man, by causing another.
Here’s why Obama and Holder are the real radicals in Ferguson: Rather than upholding law that requires them to act speedily against riots, they are ignoring it. By their inaction, they are modeling to the protestors that law doesn’t matter. But even further, that disobedience like burning a gas station is not only acceptable when you riot, it is the path to finding justice, rather than let the justice system work. Anything short of Obama and Holder outrightly speaking against the riots and enforcing the law is a dereliction of their duties.
